realised i never posted an on my new instance

Hi, i'm Sijmen, a.k.a. vijfhoek, am a 29yo dutchie, and I have been a Fosstodon user for some time. Because Fosstodon wasn't really for me I started off on Misskey, then Sharkey. After a while the itch started again, and I was getting annoyed with Sharkey's bloatedness and bad Mastodon API implementation, so I looked into a new server. GoToSocial was cool but too simple, people recommended me to skip Akkoma/Pleroma/etc and to try IceShrimp.NET too, and here we are.

I like programming, specifically creating new projects and never finishing them (latest one is an mastodon API client:
git.sijman.nl/vijfhoek/fedilite), and the odd embedded stuff (I've been building a keyboard I really need to finish someday it's so close).

Other than programming I like coffee, D&D, and self-hosting things. I have got a job in devops (mostly Kubernetes stuff nowadays) and am an (honestly non-practicing) embedded systems master student.

If you read this, send me cat pictures and cool things to self-host.

so yeah that's it i guess doei

@jeder poland to the south of the patat-frietgrens??
The 'patat-friet border' or 'friet border' is the informal name for an idiomatic isogloss within the Dutch language area. To the north of this isogloss is mainly used the word fries, while to the south of it one says fries or fries.

The map is based on the results of a 1972 survey by dialectologist Jan Stroop, who wrote an article about it in 2005 that he illustrated with the map Patates Frites. The use of the words patat friet, petat, friet en frieten were then drawn in and the boundary between word use of chips and potatoes with a line, the "patatten-aardappel boundary".[1][2] The original map appeared in 1972, accompanying the article: ‘A fries with (..questions), in Communications of the Institute of Dialectology, Folklore and Nameskill.[3]

@neil @robryk alternatively, open up the machine and wire tap the communication between control panel and control board (which is often separate)

might be an insurance nightmare though

@neil @robryk slight variation of this might work

afaik, many machines resume their programme after a power outage, so wouldn't it be possible to start the programme, and kill the power before it grabs (too much) water using a smart plug? (possibly automatically)

@dalias @Orca @evacide WhatsApp does tell you to use the Linked Devices setting when scanning a linking code using the easy to access camera+QR scanner for adding contacts

Did you mean that, or am I confusing it with something else

@veronica in my mind it is mostly used as an explicitly inclusive term, to include people not using mastodon (arguably also includes non-microblogging activitypub services like Pixelfed and Lemmy)

but I might be wrong with that assumption
