I would love if someone told me why Wayfire properly scales my Wine applications up 2x, whereas GNOME doesn't scale them at all.

Yes, I can set GNOME for 2x scaling, and everything scales great, except Wine applications.

I switch over to Wayfire, works right away. What's different about how Wayfire does it?

@veronica It looks like Wayland desktops each need to solve the problem of scaling X11 applications by themselves, and each desktop handles it a bit differently

In this thread here a user does a good write up on how GNOME and KDE implements xWayland scaling in comparison to Wayfire

From the wording of the PR it looks like Wayfire implements compositor side scaling, while GNOME has a separate option for xWayland scaling
