@chjara@aetios IIRC that one's more because well 1.7 will be a float, so 1.7 == 1.70
Could argue it's not much yaml's fault there but it's full of so many footguns and it's not too usual to quote things in yaml (almost like shell where a novice or someone feeling lazy would typically not quote things while one more experienced would. Quite a horrible language for quick stuff but at least it's from the 70's~80's).
@lanodan@chjara sh is also awful but it has better reasons for being so. (I avoid using it) literally every time i use a config file im like this should have been ini (toml is often alright, but ini serves the need of 95%)
@aetios@chjara Yeah, most config files should just be INI (or raw key=value, very easy to parse) or something like TOML.
There's only few specific ones where I think it makes sense for it to have a sort of DSL (web servers, OpenSMTPd being routing-like also make sense, …).
@chjara@lanodan yeah but xml sucks for humans and config files are where humans interact with the software and so they must be approachable in a human centric way
