it's such a frustrating thing to observe. there's no good enough, there's no compromise, it's all "my way or the highway". when someone celebrates a small victory, people argue that they should've gone for world domination instead.

roleplayed as a streamer today (streaming the unboxing of the Carbage Run starter pack with the friends I'm going on the trip with on Discord)
A photo of a desk, with a Carbage Run envelope on it, on top of the usual PC desk stuff. On the right side of the frame, there's a camera (Canon EOS 5D Mark III, if you're curious) on a tripod pointed at said desk, with a USB mini-B cable coming out of it On the left monitor, there's a terminal with ffmpeg-looking output on it, split evenly with a Discord settings menu showing the video preview. On the right monitor, there's a Home Assistant dashboard allowing me to tune the lights right there

@semit0ne @argv_minus_one I fondly remember calling my parent's fax machine from home (we had ISDN and 3 phone numbers, so the fax had a separate phone number :D) and just listening to the thing going HEY i'm a fax machine :D who's there?........ who's there?........ who's there?.......

@semit0ne @argv_minus_one Oh i know right? it's rather common for people on my uni's campus to have server gear in their homes, who just.. deal with the noise. I could never... I'm glad my desktop shuts up once it's done booting
